This issue's theme of "Family Travel" seemed to resonate with a lot of writers (hey, we all have families, right?) and we have some spectacular stories for you by stellar writers.
Our cover story by Andrew Der describes the magic his children, ages 8 and 10, felt when they became temporary caretakers of sea turtle babies on Anna Maria Island.
Nancy Schretter, founder and managing editor of the popular and well-respected Family Travel Network website, also writes about sea creatures – California Gray Whales in Magdalena Bay in Baja. A kayaking excursion is about as close as you can get to these magnificent giants.
The inaugural piece of the NATJA Spotlight column, written by Arline Zatz, is a compilation of advice from family travel experts, including Peter Mandel, Tim Leffel and Nancy Schretter, among others. You may learn some new tricks for traveling with kids. Speaking of tips, J.M. Pasquesi details how to make a "cultured" kid, while Lanora Mueller has some foolproof ideas for capturing even reluctant kids on film. Florida is always a family favorite and Sherri Telenko brings us up to date on Daytona Beach's charms.
My Family Travel column this month is being penned by guest columnist and NATJA member Donna Airoldi, who is the editor of a great new website Travelmuse. Check out her piece on the very cool Zeum Museum in San Francisco, then visit www.travelmuse.com to see what the site is all about. (Full disclosure: I am a contributor.)
If you have a recent or upcoming book, let us know at kim@natja.org or azatz@funtravels.com. It will be highlighted in next month's Spotlight column.
As always, have happy and safe travels!
