Biography

I've followed a bit of an unusual path to become a travel writer (or at least it seemed to me to be a bit quirky). I started with a PhD in Psychology, wandered from child development into health (for a combined total of about 15 years)and finally travel writing. I own/publish OffbeatTravel.com (www.offbeattravel.com), an award-winning travel information website, which gives me the excuse to travel as often as possible. And then, because it seemed like a good idea at the time, I opened www.OffbeatNewYork.com and most recently www.OffbeatNewMexico.com.

My passions are art, culture, history and things slightly off-center, as well as anything that takes place near a body of water. So, of course, I moved from New York to live in the desert of New Mexico, where the blue sky greets me every morning, and there are mountains to the east and I can see forever towards the west.

My travel pieces have appeared in Parade Magazine, Boston Herald, New Jersey Record, U S Airways' Attache magazine (now ceased publication), New Mexico Woman, and Newsday's Parents & Children, with more to come.

I'm also editor of a parenting newsletter and of Raising Young Children Well that has just been published by Other Press.

Of course, there's also my travel information website but I rarely reject my own work.
