Awards include: NEA creative writing fellowship; Associated Writing Program's book award in creative nonfiction; California Newspaper Publishers' Association, feature writing award for two consecutive years; Association of Alternative Weeklies national award in arts reporting; Project Censor's best underreported stories of the year.
